Owner & Managing Director, Jeeves of Belgravia, New York
Location: New York, NY
There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of being able to say that you’re the best at what you do. As the owner and managing director of Jeeves of Belgravia, New York, Jerry Pozniak is familiar with the feeling. Jeeves is the trusted destination for high end garment care.
Jerry has been called upon to work on projects for the Louvre, the Metropolitan Opera House and the Lincoln Center. His clients include no less than Vogue‘s Anna Wintour and a few angels – Victoria’s Secret angels that is. Victoria’s real secret is that each year, they host two back-to-back fashion shows in a day and Jerry, along with his team, are there to keep the angels’ wings (and knickers) immaculate and ready for the epic flight(s) down the runway.
What keeps you busy?
Most of the day, I answer questions about what Jeeves can do for our clients. As the dry cleaner for New York City, many people come to us for advice on how to clean garments that other dry cleaners have turned away.
From the early days to what’s currently on your plate
I started in my family dry cleaning business in Gramercy Park about 32 years ago. My father was having an issue with his business partner and I agreed to help him for 2 years – that turned out to be much longer!
Just recently, I worked on a couture gown valued at $250,000.00 for Christian Dior. I was flown to Paris by Victoria’s Secret to work backstage and make sure that this year’s show was sparkling clean! I’m also working with the wardrobe department of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and on a daily basis, I keep Albright Fashion Library‘s collection of over 20,000 items in pristine condition.
The rhyme or reason
The dry cleaning business at the Jeeves level is very satisfying. I have an amazing client base of people who rely on our company for garment care. I’ve also been privileged to be invited into many amazing homes.
One day, I’ll look back and laugh at this…
Cleaning the fabric mural by Claudy Jongstra in the David Rubinstein Atrium at Lincoln Center in the middle of the night, by hand, suspended 30 feet off the ground! Nothing went wrong but it was a crazy sight to see.
When the going gets tough…
I remind myself that it’s dry cleaning, not brain surgery!
Full speed ahead
I’m always ready for the next projects – I never know what garments or who is going to walk into Jeeves on any given day.
The moments that make it all worth it
When a client calls to let me know that we exceeded their expectations or that the garment that they thought was ruined is perfect!
